WELCOME
G’day, I’m Gazza from Marry Us Gary.
Welcome to How to Be an Amazing Wedding MC - Tips and Tricks so you Don’t F*ck It Up!
I’m a Civil Marriage Celebrant and Wedding MC based in Sydney, Australia.
If you are watching this video you are probably about to perform the master of ceremony duties at your clients wedding, and you are starting to feel a little nervous about the task. And so you should because statistics show that 2 out of 5 people suck at being a wedding MC.
But fear not, I have got you covered!
I have designed this course to help you master the art of becoming the ultimate Wedding MC. As a celebrant, trained actor, and professional MC, I have picked up a few handy tips and tricks about how to create an amazing atmosphere from ceremony through to the reception.
You’ll be given step by step instructions, easy to use templates, and a list of exceptional resources that will make for an excellent day, and make you look like an absolute legend.
Everything in this course is a guide. It is definitely not the only way (or the best way to MC a wedding) but contains all the do's and don'ts to ensure your clients have the best atmosphere and vibe for their wedding reception.
The handouts and resources throughout this course are based around the traditional flow of weddings. Feel free to move, add, subtract and edit as you see fit. Words such as bride, groom, groomsman and bridesmaid have been used as examples, but this course aims to promote inclusivity and celebrate everyone in your wedding, no matter their role. The wedding may be two brides, two grooms, and any mix of men of honour or grooms women, or no binary titles at all, whatever the love story, anything goes, just edit handouts as required.
The aim of the course is to save you time and I have provided all the resources you need to make the guests think you have been doing this for years.
Good luck!
Gazza
The wedding MC is the host of the wedding reception. The newlyweds need the MC to be in charge of keeping the event running smoothly, on schedule, and ensuring that all of the guests are having an awesome time.
The MC is there to make sure the newlyweds are the stars of the show and that they are taken care of throughout, whilst also making sure the wedding party, immediate family, and guests are all having the time of their lives. And if heaven forbid the train does come off the tracks, the MC is there to make it look like everything is running to plan, and make all the last minute decisions.
The MC’s duties include;
- Meeting with the couple prior to the wedding
- Be the point of contact for the event (liaising with venue, reception, catering staff, videographers, musicians etc)
- Structuring the reception and keeping everything running to schedule
- Hosting the reception (Warming up the crowd, house keeping & announcements, introducing the speakers, reading telegrams from people who couldn’t make it on the day)
- Keeping everything running to schedule facilitating cake cutting, toasts, games, first dance & bouquet toss.
- Facilitating cake cutting, toasts, games, first dance & bouquet toss.
The Structure of a wedding day will vary with different styles, cultures and locations, but we have provided a solid structure of events.
Tip: The above is based on an evening reception but elements may change if your couple are having a sunrise or lunchtime celebration.
Tip: A cocktail reception instead of a sit-down reception will usually mean a more relaxed schedule. But, getting the attention of an audience is harder at a cocktail event as everyone is standing and mingling. Be sure to start each segment with a cheer for the couple to get everyone’s attention.
Don’t fret! I have supplied all of these key handouts to help you structure the wedding reception.
